Halsey Shocks Fans with Surprising Band That Dominates Her Playlist!

In a recent interview, pop star Halsey made the shocking revelation that emo-rock band My Chemical Romance dominates her personal playlist. This admission took many fans by surprise, as My Chemical Romance’s dark, angsty music seems quite different from Halsey’s slick electro-pop style. However, Halsey insisted that she has been a huge fan of the band since her early teens and their music continues to deeply resonate with her.

“I know people might not expect it from me, but I’m a huge My Chemical Romance nerd,” Halsey confessed. “I started listening to them when I was 14 years old and their music just spoke to me in a way no other band did. Even though my own music is really different, MCR is still so important to me and their songs are always on repeat.”

For those unfamiliar, My Chemical Romance is an alternative rock band that formed in New Jersey in 2001. The original members were Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Ray Toro, and Matt Pelissier. They skyrocketed to fame in the mid-2000s with their sophomore album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and its breakout single “I’m Not Okay (I Promise).” Their third album, The Black Parade, cemented their status as icons in the emo genre. Known for Way’s flamboyant stage presence and darkly cathartic lyrics, My Chemical Romance attracted a deeply devoted cult following.

Halsey elaborated on why this unusual band means so much to her, saying: “There’s just such raw emotion in their music, you can really feel how personal it is to them. The lyrics are so poetic but angsty and I connected to that as a moody teen. Plus Gerard Way’s voice and performance style are just incredible. He pulls you into this deep, dark world and you feel everything he’s feeling. Their songs are like mini melodic rollercoasters.”

The “Without Me” singer went on to highlight some of her favorite MCR tracks over the years:

-“I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” – The lead single from My Chem’s breakout album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, this song encapsulates everything Halsey loves about them. “It’s so singalongable, angsty, and just perfect emo,” she gushed.

-“Helena”- An emotional tribute to Way’s late grandmother, this song showcases his vocal talents and the band’s darker theatrical side. “It’s so beautiful but haunting,” Halsey said.

-“Welcome to the Black Parade” – The iconic lead single from My Chem’s opus The Black Parade, this song took on an anthemic life of its own. Halsey declared it one of her “top 5 songs of all time.”

-“The Ghost of You” – A World War II-themed track with cinematic scope. “I cry every time I hear it,” Halsey confessed, calling it “devastatingly gorgeous.”

-“Teenagers” – Arguably My Chemical Romance’s most recognizable song, this scathing take down of society’s treatment of adolescents is “painfully relatable,” according to Halsey.

-“Mama” – A deeper cut off Three Cheers, this track highlighted My Chem’s tender side. “It shows their diversity and ability to be vulnerable,” the pop singer analyzed.

It’s not just the music that draws Halsey to My Chemical Romance – it’s also their outsider image and innovative spirit. “They were just so unapologetically weird and themselves. And every album showed how much they had grown as artists,” she mused. Halsey also sees parallels between herself and My Chem frontman Gerard Way, as fellow unusual artists who beat to their own drum.

This fascinating glimpse into Halsey’s musical influences made total sense to her diehard fans. They immediately took to social media to share their feelings about her unexpected love for My Chemical Romance:

-“Omg this makes me love Halsey even more, I had no idea she was a little emo kid!”

-“Halsey stanning My Chem is my new favorite thing.”

-“Now I’m imagining a Halsey x Gerard Way duet and NEED this to happen immediately!”

-“Of course Halsey loves MCR, she’s a weird theatre kid at heart just like them!”

-“My two favorite artists together, what a perfect match!”

Some fans even speculated that this shared musical passion could inspire an eventual collaboration between Halsey and My Chemical Romance. Though the band is currently on hiatus, Halsey’s promotional powers could be just the thing to coax them back into the studio. A vocal feature on a My Chem comeback single would surely break the internet!

While Halsey’s revelation was surprising at first, it’s awesome to see artists showing support for the bands who paved the way for them. My Chemical Romance’s influence clearly shines through in Halsey’s confessional lyrics and theatrical aesthetics. This just proves that great art transcends genres and generations. Here’s hoping we one day get the glory of a Halsey/MCR crossover!
